Using and bugging Plazes
A couple of colleagues have been experimenting with using twitter to syndicate their
Plazes feeds. I think and said that there are two problems with this, one is the message length if one adds a
'what I'm doing' clause. The other problem is that if you use the plazer to create your feed, you will generate multiple plaze items depending upon the stability of your network connection and the network topology and architecture. I didn't want to receive these over twitter and have relegated several correspondents to web-only reads because of this, although this is no longer relevant now that twitter have stopped forwarding via SMS.
So I bugged these using
the plazes web form; they're usually really proactive and they replied but pointed me at
their getsatisfaction site. I have raised the new items as topics but have discovered they have a web widget and so have used a personal tag and placed the widget on
my snipsnap plazes page, which displays the last five topics tagged as mine. I have also deleted some of the items on the page and shall re-test the other problems and see if they still exist over time.

Making the HTML macro work on this site
When rebuilding the snipsnap database last week, I forgot to copy the HTMLmacro.jar into the correct lib location, see also
Developing Snipsnap. I have now done this and the HTML on this site now seems to be working.

Sitemaps
I am interested in writing a better sitemap feature for
http://davelevy.info, any one got any ideas.
I could move it all into this wiki, but I'd have to move it to a more modern, reliable and available platform.

Rebuilding my snipsnap instance
I have posted my notes on rebuilding the snipsnap instance as a section of the
Snipsnap Problems snip. Its not hard, but you really need a backup.

Welcome to SnipSnap
Some how or other, I have had to restore the wiki, and the re-install process writes/or redates, this Welcome post. I shall be documenting the rebuild post.
Pinging weblogs.com may be turned on. The
FAQ explains how to turn this on or off.

Where are the 'linkedin' buttons?
I have been making minor revisions to
www.davelevy.info, and was looking for the'linkedin' web buttons page. These can be found off one's profile, at
this page. Not exactly intuitive; this page is no longer advertised on the site map.

motd for windows xp
I have got a little tcl/tk script running on the Dell to warn people to turn the
new external disk on. I used active state's tcl.tk for windows. The script sits in c:\etc, and a shortcut was created in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup. So it runs for all users.

Moving a snipsnap database
I have just moved the database files for this snipsnap instance to a larger partition. How to
move a file system mounted snipsnap database using UNIX utilities on a Linux box is documented in the link. Its not that hard really.

Wireless 3G Modem
I have just learned, thanks to
Sean Harris, how to configure my windows laptop to use my
Sony K610i as a 3G modem. For more, see
3G..., on my
Sony K610i page. A detailed
howto is on my other blog at

Life without remote control
The remote control handset for Sky's Digibox gave up to day, I wonder if this is the opportunity I have been looking for to change the
way we get our TV.
