Introduction
I have finally bought an Ipod Touch.
Oct 2008. Since I actually want the music player and the
Wifi only doesn't seem such a constraint, particularly as mobile phones become capable of acting as gateways. I then took it to the States where wireless is a bit/lot more common.

Things to do or not
This is quite addictive.
- How do I make usable Videos for download? (See also
my ipodtouch and video Bookmarks.
- Can I get fx into the stock program? I can't see how, nor find a forum to suggest it. Perhaps I can write my own, in Python and host it in Google.
- What about a national lottery results program?
- Can I put the Priority Pass lounge finder onto an app?
- Not having Flash in Safari is a complete pain in the proverbial. This
google search: flash on ipodtouch points at some reosurce to help solve the problem.
Applications
- Stock.app - use the (i) button to add some more stocks and indexes, but no FX pairs unfortunately
- The Mail application needs some help. I wonder where I can get an smtp server without a requirement to connect to their network. Neither BT nor Vodafone permit this. At home maybe the Qube can do it? I wonder if now I use btinternet.com its different.
Apple's Mobile Me looks quite useful, I wonder how tied one becomes to their server infrastructure and Microsoft desktop tools.
The additional apps I have loaded as of today are,
- Daisy Feed, rss reader, I gave up on the other one
- Facebook, I need to test and check the chat functionality
- Twitterific, marvelous
- Linkedin personal assistant, this is great...so fast
- Google, not sure about this yet, I usually use Safari, and it seems to be just another way into Safari
- IM+ Lite, now this is cool if its all you've got, obvioulsy the virtual keyboard is worse than a laptop
- Translator, a toy at the moment
- Google Earth, another not yet used in anger
- Sudoku, must have
- Lux Touch, Risk the board game
- Movies by Flixster, not yet used in anger
- CoolIris, damaged by the inability to specify the page you want, or to launch it from Safari
- VNC, now tested, see
VNC for all, on my Sun blog. The free version has some nasty limits.
- Fring, need a microphone for this
- myLite, iPint and Zippo, toys but myLite could be useful
I tried
Free RSS which doesn't look so cool, it has some problems. I wrote about it
here on my public blog.
I have registered at living social and here is my RSS feed, presented by Grazr.
Research
Here are some links I found, while deciding to buy.
If the phone becomes important, then
Fring is an ipod touch application that will make calls over the internet.

Can you increase the memory?
Buy it!
Buy it online at
Apple |
Amazon |
John LewisHmm, all the same price, is this a monopoly thing?
As
you can see, I have bought one, 16 GB from Amazon. It doesn't come with
any protective cover, so I bought one from Dixons. This wasn't cheap, its best bought at the same time as the ipod itself.
