Planet Planet
Introduction
In order to run
planetplanet, a recent version of Python is required.
This is now running on the Qube. I have written up how to install planet
here... on my blog.
Problems
Firstly, this Qube is unstable. Secondly, I have an old version of planet, I am unsure if the atom converter works or meets standards. The feed parser struggles with plazes and I have a problem acquiring the twitter feed on the qube.
Friend Feed
Friend Feed and Second Brian seem to be offering similar things but 'as a service'.
My FriendFeed. The blog interface will take rss/atom feeds so can be used for anything.
Second Brain. I have looked at this but it seems less flexible in what it can forward.
I need to test if 2nd Brain can consume my snipsnap and planet. I seem to have stopped using Digg and moved towards Google Reader. Friend Feed claims to have an
api for both.
Planet Venus
I need to test this, it seems to be based on planet, but without the database. This should run more easily on my Qube.
So can I write a feed parser that connects to Plazes and
- forwards all feed entries that are different from the last,
- the first of the day
This I could host on my Qube and consume from Friend Feed.
I have installed Venus on my Qube and it fails the installl tests. I tried it on an Ubuntu 8 Virtual Box, and it failed the install tests. The first missing component is Redland RDF, which seems to be used in creating the OPML files. The install instructions are at
http://librdf.org/bindings/INSTALL.html. I doubt they'll install on the Qube.
Creating a single feed
It would want
I have just disconnected friend feed from planet/davelevy, so I'll give it a couple of hours to see if they have been removed from the feed.
The friend feed blog interface will take an rss feed URL, and I have already proved it will consume (one of my) planet feeds.
