<s:content>1 Home Internet

This snip holds my notes made while helping Stan upgrade his internet connections/terminal infrastucture. His current phone supplier is __Talk Talk__.

1.1 Phone Options

__Talk Talk__ broadband comes by default with a modem, which I assume has a USB cable. Their web site page, {link:Guide to Installation|http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-server-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.HELP.BBHELP.BBINSPC} talks about both a USB cable and a recommended ethernet cable. The {link:Setting up Broadband|http://www.talktalk.co.uk/talktalk/servlet/gben-server-PageServer?article=MAIN.UK.TALKTALK.STATIC.HELP.BBHELP.MODEM} states that there is an option between wired and wireless routers. The wireless router attracts a ?20 one off charge.

The latter page states that the default devices are:-

* smartax mt882, a wired xDSL modem from Huawei, its web site is down or
* echolife hg520s, is the wireless version also from Huawei

__Talk Talk__ sales recommend upgrading to __Talk2Talk Int'l__ plan.

If we opt for the non-wireless connection, is there a physical constraint on where the modem sits wrt to the NTU or the desktop.

~~2nd Jan 2008~~

1.1 Mail Browser appliance options

i.e. what computer? The options above mean that either a laptop, which allows a choice between wireless or ethernet, or USB or a desktop device which is unlikely to have the wireless option.</s:content>
